Be careful using essential oils particularly on face. I’m sure you’ll research it but for anyone else – make sure you never use neat; make sure they are 100% pure essential oils, not ‘fragrant oils’; some oils, like citrus (particularly lemon) can react with sunlight so best to use a sunblock; personally I wouldn’t use astringent, even diluted, oils on my skin (I studied aromatherapy a million years ago πŸ™‚ ). Fantastic in diy cleaning! Cant wait to see how you get on. Ive made body butter for ages but not a regular face moisturiser!

…oh, if you have a good local library they usually have (for some reason) lots of books on aromatherapy if you’re looking for good, reliable info πŸ™‚

I would but just be a little careful, especially as skin on face is more delicate. I’d just use a very diluted ratio; sometimes less is more with essential oils…actually that’s always the case with with essential oils! Definitely so if using daily. Oils are fantastic – I can change my basic body butter every batch just by adding different oils – but if you were adding lemon oil to a face moisturiser, and just going by ‘smell’, well, you might end up with photosensitive skin and sun damage!

So you wouldn’t use any essential oils at all on your skin? Thanks for all the info!

This is the guide I use for essential oils and my skin… http://helloglow.co/12-best-essential-oils-gorgeous-skin/ Take a look and let me know what you think! The other thing I love to use is aloe juice. I keep a little spray bottle of aloe juice in the refrigerator and spritz the face when I need a refresher. I’m thinking about adding rose water to it. I love rose.

I decided not to keep using coconut oil on my skin either. The texture of the skin on my face has become a little odd in recent years; it looks fine, but I have developed a rougher texture on my cheeks and chin. I’m wondering if using oil on my face is the reason. I never used it before that, so now I’m back to aloe only, at the moment, to see if it gets better.

Can’t wait to see you make your moisturizer, and see what you think of the results, after a few weeks!

Thanks for suggesting Semi Tropical. Can’t wait to look at her videos… 😊

Yey! I’ve been making my own faceoil for the last couple of years – and totally cleared my adult acne. I also use the oil cleansing method. And I haven’t found a cleansing method that can compare. I literally look forward to nighttime, because I get to clean my face… Haha.

I think it’s sad how afraid people are of using oil on their face. Yes, at first it doesn’t make any sense. But my skin is so “plump” and clear! πŸ˜€ I really recommend lavender oil, since you already have that πŸ™‚

And by the way: it’s so much fun to see your channel grow! I found you about 2-3 weeks ago, and you’ve got like 2-3000 new subscribers since then πŸ˜€

I loooove Enzymion but it does feel quite expensive. I just finished up my last tub of it, I’m going without for a bit to see how I feel. I’m curious how you get on with your homemade moisturiser since I guess we have somewhat similar skin types to both like Enzymion. You could maybe try rose oil in your moisturiser?

For daily skincare type stuff I am down to just:

    Lush Karma moisturiser
    Lush Eau roma Water toner
    Lush Karma perfume
Lush Charity Pot Moisturiser (post tattoo healing only, will just use Karma once it’s done!)
    Lush Aromaco Deodorant
    Nag Champa hair spray

So feeling fairly minimal right now on that front finally!

maybe considering doing some research into the effects of essential oils on skin- there’s a lot of research concluding that they’re sensitising, so disrupt and irritate the skin and many increase photosensitive. they can have very damaging effects. while plant extracts are beneficial for skin, fragrance and essential oils are not- see Paula’s Choice ingredient listings for example- most products containing essential oil will be awarded 1 star reviews, because they’re not healthy.

just something you might want to consider before putting them on your face!

Lemon and orange oil (any citrus oil I think) can cause photo-sensitivity, so they can cause sun damage if worn on skin without SPF. I make my own skincare products and I often skip the sent when it comes to face products all together because of the hassle- there is a lot of harm essential oils can do when applied on the delicate skin on your face. You want to be sure to use very diluted amounts and make sure to use an SPF. You should check out “Humblebee and Me” her blog and you tube channel are packed full of recipes that got me started in my cosmetic diy.

I use a mix of rose hip, jojoba, morninga and frankincense and lavender EO on my face at night, and grape seed and frankincense during the day. I use coconut oil with the oil cleansing method to clean my face, and diluted apple cider vinegar as a toner at night. I made a coffee scrub out ground coffee beans and coconut oil that I use once a week, I also use baking soda once a week as a scrub and for a toothpaste enhancer once a week, and I do a facial mask with turmeric, lemon oil and bentonite clay once a week, and i use magnesium oil and tea tree for deodorant right now in the Winter, but once it gets hot here (it gets over 100 in Summer) I break down and use Schmidt’s deodorant, which is vegan, cruelty free, all natural, actually works and lasts ages!
